Memphis 5th Anniversary

They've come a long way since their first class of only 34 students in June 2013.

Last month, Concorde - Southaven, Miss. campus celebrated five years since the classrooms first opened.

It became Concorde's 16th campus. While it's just 20 miles over the state line from Concorde- Memphis, the team at Southaven operates like they've been there forever.

"The Southaven campus has evolved into a thriving campus with so much potential," said Chris Burgio, Concorde - Southaven Campus Director, "We started out only servicing three counties when we first opened. We now service over nine counties in the North Mississippi area. We have students traveling up to two hours to attend classes. That tells me that the word is getting out that our college has something to offer future health care professionals."

The campus offers medical office professional, massage therapy, dental assisting and medical assisting programs.

More than just the programs that are offered, Concorde - Southaven wasted no time championing local causes and connecting with their neighbors.

Through volunteering and outreach, the campus has created a lasting impact with organizations like Heartland Hands, House of Grace, Hermitage Garden Nursing Home, Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, and other local non-profits.

In fact, the campus was nominated by the Southaven Chamber of Commerce as the top business in the community.

Burgio says that he's grown personally and professionally along with the campus:

"I have learned a lot over the past five years. I have learned that this position is so rewarding yet very challenging. I have also learned how much I respect and love what this college stands for. I have enjoyed being here from the start and being able to help build a culture that is centered around our core values and mission statement. I strive to give my all to my students and staff on a daily basis in hopes that they enjoy their college and work experience. I will always be thankful for the opportunity Tommy Stewart, Concorde's Regional Vice President, gave me 5 years ago by entrusting me with this campus. I hope that I have the opportunity to lead for many more!"

What's next for Southaven? Burgio predicts nothing but good things!

"After visiting the campus for the first time I remember thinking of all the potential this campus had. The potential for making an impact in Desoto County and neighboring counties." said Burgio, "We have already and look to continue to make a difference. I see the Southaven campus adding more programs to benefit the community and our students. I believe that this campus will continue to pave the way for those that dream to be in the health care industry for years to come."
