There's a new sheriff in town. For our latest installment of Meet Your Campus Presidents, we're heading to the wild west to catch up with Concorde's newest College President, DeWayne Johnson. DeWayne took the reins at Concorde's campus in San Bernardino, Calif. last month and is hard at work ensuring that the health care career college runs smoothly, efficiently and effectively on all fronts.

We're going to learn today how DeWayne got to his current position, that he never tries to take himself too seriously, he loves TV zombies and has a past as a deep-sea fisherman.

Let's meet DeWayne Johnson.

WHAT'S BEEN YOUR JOURNEY TO BECOMING A CONCORDE CP?

I started in career education as an adjunct instructor and then subsequently had several roles with increasing responsibilities which included being a full-time instructor, program director, academic dean, vice president and campus president. I was able to witness first-hand how a campus grew from the ground-up and to understand and value the contributions from all the staff and faculty in creating an environment where students felt both welcomed and challenged. Prior to my experience in the career education environment, I was a certified public accountant for eight years.

WHAT'S BEEN THE BEST PART ABOUT BEING A CAMPUS PRESIDENT?

The best part about being a campus president for a career college is the opportunity to observe individuals changing their lives, and that of their families, on a daily basis. I understand the amount of hard work and effort that is required from our students, staff, and faculty to make our students' academic dreams a reality but know in my heart the positive change education will make in their lives.

IS THERE ANYTHING THAT MAKES THE SAN BERNARDINO CAMPUS STAND OUT?

The San Bernardino campus takes great pride in the programs we offer as well as the staff and faculty who support our students. The hands-on experience our students receive as well as the industry experience of our faculty is what unquestionably sets Concorde Career College apart from other colleges and universities.

WHAT'S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU EVER WERE GIVEN?

The best piece of advice I've ever received was to not take myself too seriously. I grew up being taught that I'm not more important than anyone else but that nobody else is more important than me. We only have one life and we are all here together, so why not try and enjoy the journey.

WHAT'S A FAVORITE TV SHOW, RECENT MOVIE YOU'VE SEEN OR BOOK YOU'VE READ?

I'm a huge fan of The Walking Dead and can't wait for the second half of Season 7 on Feb. 13.

WHAT IS A HIDDEN TALENT, FAVORITE HOBBY OR LITTLE-KNOWN FACT PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU?

I worked on commercial fishing vessels in the Bering Sea. If you've seen the reality television show, The Deadliest Catch, then you'll know what I'm talking about. Our base of operations was Dutch Harbor, Alaska, which is in the middle of the Aleutian Islands and is quite often depicted in The Deadliest Catch.
