health care awareness

Concorde - Kansas City welcomed its newest Program Director earlier this spring when Francess Hawkins assumed the leadership role for the campus's Medical Assistant and Medical Office Administrator programs. She fills the duties held by Tracy Baldomino, who became that campus's, Academic Dean.

Let's take a few moments to learn more about Francess and her work with the Medical Assistant and Medical Office Administrator students.

And, please help us welcome Francess to the Concorde family.

Where are you from originally?

I was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa.

What were you doing before you got to Concorde?

I worked as a Medical Assistant (MA) and Medical Assistant with Limited Radiography Tech (MALRT) Program Director for Vatterott Educational Centers from March 2015 to April 2017. I also was a Certified Medical Assistant for Cardiology and Pediatrics with Unity Point Clinics in Iowa.

What is your educational and teaching background?

As a Program Director at Vatterott, I had to teach along with running the departments. My educational back is... I have an Associate of Applied Science in Medical Assisting from Kaplan University (2009). I'm working on a bachelor's in health care management through Bellevue University (Feb. 2017-present).

What do you hope to do with the MA/MOA programs at Concorde - Kansas City?

My hope for my career at Concorde is to help as many students realize the importance of not only beginning their journey in health care but completing it as well. So many times, we get caught up in our day-to-day experiences, and we give up on anything that challenges us or does not come easy. If I can help even one student understand that what we do today helps to shape our tomorrow, then I will have done what I was supposed to do. I want them to come in as they are and leave as a better thinker, problem solver and just in a better place than before.

We'd like to know a little about you. Do you have any hobbies you enjoy?

I enjoy spending my free time with my two daughters. We love watching movies, eating out or fixing new dishes to try. A book I'm currently reading is, The Year of Yes, by Shonda Rhimes. My favorite movie of all time would have to be Imitation of Life, second version. And my favorite TV shows are Law and Order, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago PD.

Any hidden talents?

No hidden talents... at least, not that I know of.
