Ginny Carpenter, Miramar CP

Our last two installments of "Meet Your Campus President" have taken us way out west, to the land of George Clooney and Julia Roberts (North Hollywood) and deep into the heart of Texas (Dallas). To balance things out, we're heading cross country to the far southeastern corners and the Miami area, home to palm trees, alligators, super-sized yachts and Crockett and Tubbs.

Read on to find out more about Ginny Carpenter, Campus President at Concorde Career Institute's Miramar campus, which sits to the north of downtown Miami, between Miami and Fort Lauderdale and delivers the same high-quality education and training in health care careers. Carpenter illuminates us on her career in higher education, why she absolutely loves being in south Florida (no major hurricanes for a few years now) and her love travel and television.

Let's meet Ginny Carpenter.

What's been your journey to becoming a Concorde CP?

I've been working in higher education for more than 30 years. I previously worked for two other school groups earlier in my career. But, I love the Concorde family. They care about employees and treat everyone with respect.

What is your favorite aspect of being a CP at the Concorde-Miramar campus?

I love the passion our employees have for our students. There is a clear dedication to our students in so far as training them for successful health care careers. Also, of course, Florida boasts the best weather and has been hurricane-free for some time!

What do you think makes Concorde-Miramar and its health care careers stand out from other career colleges in the area?

We have great facilities, excellent relationships with employers, strong programs in health care careers and, most of all, the people we have working here.

What's the best piece of advice you were ever given?

A boss told me years ago when I became a President to always focus my attention on hiring, training and supporting my faculty and staff. They are the keys to ensuring students are happy, well-educated and ultimately successful in finding employment. Happy employees translate to satisfied students and alumni.

What's a favorite TV show, recent movie you've seen or book you've read?

Oh, so many TV shows - love Mad Men, Grey's Anatomy, Vinyl, and The Night Manager. Too many movies to name... I love to watch movies of all kinds. I recently watched The Water Diviner, True Story, Serendipity and an old favorite, Jaws. I love to talk movie trivia with friends and family.

What is a hidden talent, favorite hobby or little-known fact?

No real hidden talents. I love to travel. I keep a daily travel journal for every single trip I take. It's fun to go back and read about past adventures.
