Concorde's Respiratory Therapy program in North Hollywood celebrated the inaugural induction of The Lambda Beta National Honor Society.

The nationally-recognized Lambda Beta National Honor Society promotes, recognizes and honors scholarship, scholarly achievement, service, and character of students, graduates and faculty members of the Respiratory Therapy profession.

"The name, Lambda Beta, is based on the goals of the profession," said Gretchen Keys, BSHA, RRT, Respiratory Therapy Program Director at Concorde - North Hollywood. "Sustaining life and breath using the Greek letters 'L' for life and 'B' for breath."

The society boasts more than 100 chapters and thousands of members including students, graduates, and faculty members. Requirements are: completion of 50 percent of Respiratory Therapy classes and are in the top 25 percent of the class. Nominees should be active in the RT club and have a good clinical record. These are students who have excelled in their Respiratory Therapy programs.

Respiratory therapy students inducted in the inaugural class

The Concorde - North Hollywood chapter held its inaugural ceremony on June 23 for six inductees, families, faculty and staff. The inaugural members were Stephanie Puls, Luis Tejada, Medina Garcia, Michael Jerro, Andrew Cajigal, and Viken Jillian. Vikan was the student speaker at this summer's past commencement ceremony.

"The ceremony was very elegant, with food and drinks, guest speakers and a lot of pictures," Keys said. "The students were presented with their certificates and pins. They wrote their names in the 'Roll of Honor,' preserving the honor in writing."

Announcements were distributed to new inductees to The Lambda Beta National Honor Society last month.

"The feeling among our Respiratory Therapy students is like waiting for Oscar nominations, one student said," Keys said. "For the next eight students and one graduate nominee, Oscar night is fast approaching."

Let's all join together in congratulating these inductees on their accomplishments. Let's also save congratulations for the second class of respiratory therapists about to be inducted. This is a great honor indeed!
